Grenada, West Indies
is our home for a few months while we let the hurricanes run their wild course.
Upon our arrival back from a family reunion in Canada and another in Minnesota and Iowa, we got to welcome Kirani James back to his country after winning the Olympic Gold Medal for the 400 meter race. He arrived in a cavalcade and when I saw him passing in the car only a few feet from where I was standing on the narrow street I yelled to tell him that we saw him win the gold that day (on t.v.) He gave me a big smile and a thumbs up! We all continued to the stadium which they renamed the Kirani James Stadium on Kirani James Boulevard and they honoured him with speeches, singing and dancing. We have been so greatly impressed with all of the various kinds of talent that these beautiful Grenadians have to offer. GRENADA HAS TALENT! It was also Kirani's birthday so they gave him a 4 ft. long cake with a running track on it. He accepted all the adulation with such humble gratitude and at 20 years of age he is now a wonderful ambassador for Grenada. His parents were in attendance and given much praise for raising such a focused and good spirited son.
Below is a picture of Hog Island and the Bay in front of Whisper Cove Marina where we spend the majority of our time, whether on our boat, our friend's or at the Marina which is very French, so we like it. We buy some of our organic food here as well or at the downtown market in St. George.

WE went on a tour of Grenada, Spice Island, West Indies. It is truely the land of spice and especially of NUTMEG which is depicted on the Nations Flag. Rich in fruit like Bread Fruit, Golden Apples, and so many exotic fruits, vegetables, nuts and spices, this was an extensive and informative tour.

We are so happy to be able to make our home here in Grenada while waiting for Hurricane Season to pass. We love the people here. They are decent, fun, beautiful, helpful and are so generous in showing and sharing their island and all that it bears. This is a very comfortable and happy place where health and healthy food and living is the priority.
The cruiser community is laid back and everyone contributes in some way. Gabriel from S/V Santosha teaches us yoga and Wade and I are playing volleyball. Zero to Cruising continutes to motivate us to go "hashing" . So, more pictures of our precious friends and community life are yet to come! |
